Pastor Scott said in a sermon a few months ago, “We all have seasons of life that require sacrifice. We remember that Jesus will lead us through.” He also said, “It is all about turning to God in repentance. That is the heartsong of every Christian faith.” Our reading at this point in Lent (Mark 10) showed Jesus very clearly telling His disciples what was coming. He corrected the confused brothers that wished to sit next to Him in His kingdom by speaking of selfless service. Jesus concluded, “For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many.” The Son of Man came…to give His life. Jesus was in the divinely appointed season of life that required His ultimate sacrifice.
Most of us are blessed in that we don’t have to sacrifice everything for the Gospel like the disciples did. But life is still marked with seasons of great personal sacrifice. The best we can do is reach for Jesus’ hand and trust Him to lead us through. And daily, we have to sacrifice our very selves in a way that turns our hearts to Jesus. Then we can serve the way He leads us. Then our hearts can sing His praise at every turn and in every season. ~Tracy
