I often see people in our neighborhood walking their dogs. A friend of mine has a big hound dog that mostly sniffs around and pulls her down the street. Another woman walks an imposing rottweiler. That dog looks at her master every ten seconds. The strong dog heels perfectly and continually glances up at the woman for guidance or commands. Of course, I have to compare the dogs to humans and their walk with God. Some people sniff around the world, following their human nature, pulling God along with them without much thought of their Master. Then there are the rottweiler Christians. They fiercely and faithfully walk with their Master, constantly seeking His face for direction, companionship, next steps. They stick with their Master rain or shine with trust and confidence.

It’s interesting that the hound dog also trusts and even loves his master, but doesn’t care much to be obedient or stick close. There are all manner of creature types between selfish hounds and fierce rottweilers. Loyal labs come to mind, cuddly spaniels, chippy chihuahuas and peppy poodles. With training, just about any dog can learn to obey its master. From experience, beagles are exceedingly hard to train, but there are people like that in God’s Kingdom, too. I may be a loyal lab today and a bossy beagle tomorrow. I have to remember what the Word says, “If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us” (1 John 1:8). Our life-sustaining connection to our Master is noticeable to those around us. We ought to all be in training to daily follow our Master’s lead. Blessings on your walk! ~Tracy
