You should see my tomato crop! I picked two full cups yesterday. Funny how a little tomato plant from the garden center has become “my tomato plant.” I chose it and planted it, so it’s mine, and I’m proud that it is producing good fruit. Let’s draw a little parallel between humans and tomato plants. People all come from the same garden center (Garden of Eden, that is). God chose us and planted us where we are, so we are His, and He is proud that we are producing good fruit. Jesus doesn’t call us His sweet tomatoes, but He does call us His sheep and, “My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.” (John 10) Coming up is Good Shepherd Sunday, and we celebrate being loved, protected, guided and truly known by our Shepherd Jesus. It is also Mother’s Day, and I have to send love to my wonderful mom and daughters, and all the terrific moms out there. I’m so proud of you, and honored that our Good Shepherd made us a loving family of believers that produces good fruit of many kinds.
