Would you be surprised to learn that personality polls show approximately 30% of people do not like change, and only 20% welcome change? Malachi 3:6 declares a characteristic of God: “I am the Lord, and I do not change.” Everything God created changes over time, but He doesn’t. Human bodies change all the time. (Our grandson grew three inches in six months!) Our minds can grow every day. (I just learned that 30% of people are change-averse, like me.) Our spirits can mature and our lives can be transformed. (Listen again to our sermon series on the Fruit of the Spirit.)

After the Lord said, “I do not change,” He said, “That is why you descendants of Jacob are not already destroyed.” When God makes a covenant, declares His everlasting love, promises eternal life through Christ, we can be sure those assurances are true and unchanging. We are not destroyed when we sin because God is love and love is patient, kind, and protective. We mature in the light of God’s love, even when it is hard and we don’t like change. Change we will, to walk in His ways and bring Him glory. Growing with God makes for beautiful, joyful living. A personal poll shows 100% of us like that blessing in life.
