Giving Glory
Our daughter called her baby Sweet Pea when the family was together recently. Big brother whispered to his baby sister later, “Don’t cry, Sweet Pea,” as he rubbed her little head. Young ears are always listening and young hearts are always learning. When the apostle Paul was writing letters to new believers, no matter their age, they had young Christian ears and young Jesus-loving hearts. He taught them about love and suffering, peace and obedience, serving and generosity, life and death. In 2 Corinthians 9 he spoke of their eager generosity. “And when we take your gifts to those who need them, they will thank God. So two good things will result from this ministry of giving—the needs of the believers in Jerusalem will be met, and they will joyfully express their thanks to God. As a result of your ministry, they will give glory to God.” Isn’t that perfect?
As the young Christian church grew, it was guided by Paul and the disciples into spiritual and relational truths for living together in Christ. Those same spiritual principles shape our lives, too. We listen to and learn from God’s holy Word, then share that way of living for Christ with others. This is a humbling, holy fact: We can give something and God can get the thanks. We serve others, and God gets the glory. That’s our goal, Sweet Peas! All we do is for God’s glory! ~Tracy
