Hope Anew
Shocking news! Did you know that a single serving of black olives equals just four olives? I eat four olives before I dump the can over into the serving bowl! I mean, we have eight fingertips that can comfortably hold eight olives…oh, you don’t do that now that you are an adult? We taught our daughters to put olives on their fingers and they are teaching their children the same silly thing. Fun fact: pitted olives have been popular for many thousands of years. Who knows how long the tradition has been going? As we look into God’s Word in Psalm 78 this Sunday, we see the importance of telling the next generation about the Lord. If olives can trigger us to pass along a tradition, how much more can the works and Word of the Lord!
Psalm 78:7 So each generation should set its hope anew on God, not forgetting his glorious miracles and obeying his commands. I’ve encouraged you many times to think of God’s glorious miracles, both in your life and in the Bible. We also talk about the freedom we find through obedience to our Lord. We have so many God stories to tell the next generation. As the verse says, each generation should set its hope anew on God. We can give others a start with that, and the Holy Spirit will do His work. All our Shepherd ministries aim to bring God glory and teach generations about His great love and forgiveness. All people today need the Lord’s hope and salvation, miracles and mission, just like generations before and after us. We are each partners in spreading God’s hope anew. Thankful for God’s gift of hope, you, and olives, Tracy
