How do you like to celebrate the 4th of July? Hometown parade? Watermelon and sparklers? Baseball game? Grand displays on television? America, democracy and freedom are worth celebrating! When Jesus was approached by Pharisees with a trick question about government support, this was His reply: “Give to Caesar what belongs to Caesar, and give to God what belongs to God.” We, too, support our nation, but love our God above all. Do you remember our nation’s bicentennial and the American Freedom Train? I feel blessed beyond measure to be celebrating our country all these years, through peaceful days and terrible times. In an 1816 letter to his friend, John Adams, Thomas Jefferson wrote, “I like the dreams of the future better than the history of the past.” Like our founding fathers, may we dream big and work hard for our people. May God guide our dreams and protect our country, give us hope and a future as only He can.
